Geocode US addresses offline
One file for all of the United States, read locally. No server, no API key, and the addresses you geocode never leave your machine.
Get started
The file for the United States is 1.45 GB and holds 95.33 million point addresses plus 34.52 million address-range points addresses from the National Address Database and state and county open data (via Overture Maps) plus Census TIGER/Line 2025 address ranges. Download it once, checked against the signed release; every query after that runs on your machine, with no API key and no rate limit.
$ pip install gridpin-mcp # includes the engine $ gridpin-fetch us # The United States, 1.45 GB, verified download
import gridpin
from gridpin_mcp import sheets
g = gridpin.Geocoder(str(sheets.download("us"))) # no-op once downloaded
g.geocode("1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20500", 1)
# -> house, PENNSYLVANIA Avenue Northwest 1600, Washington
g.geocode("350 Fifth Ave, New York, NY 10118", 1)
# -> house, 5 Ave 350, Times Square
Street types and directions work abbreviated or spelled out (St / Street, NW / Northwest), a ZIP+4 is read as its ZIP, and the City, ST ZIP tail works with or without the comma. Point addresses cover 35 states; in CO, FL, HI, MS, NH, NV and SC answers are interpolated from Census address ranges (tens to hundreds of metres).
How often it finds the right house, compared with Nominatim and Photon on independent truth: benchmark. Try it without installing: the live demo (pick the United States in the list), or the Colab notebook (set COUNTRY = "us").
